Set alert sensitivity for ping monitors
Alert sensitivity determines how many failed checks must occur before StatusGator triggers an alert. This helps reduce noise from temporary network hiccups or isolated failures.
Open the alert sensitivity settings
- Go to Monitors in the left menu.
- Find the ping monitor you want to adjust.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) and select Configure.
- Open the Settings tab.
- Scroll to the Advanced section.
- Select the desired number of retries before an alert is triggered.
Available alert sensitivity options
- None (default) – Alert immediately on the first failure.
- 1 retry – Require 2 consecutive failures before alerting.
- 2 retries – Require 3 consecutive failures before alerting.
- 3 retries – Require 4 consecutive failures before alerting.
Best practices
- Use None for highly critical systems where every failure must be detected immediately.
- Use 1–2 retries for most servers and services to avoid false positives from short-lived network issues.
- Use 3 retries for unstable or distant networks where occasional packet loss is expected.
