Enable two-factor authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your StatusGator account by requiring a one-time passcode in addition to your password when logging in.
How 2FA is managed
- Admins can enforce 2FA for the entire organization in Team Management → Authentication options. Once enabled, all users must set up 2FA to continue logging in.
- Users enable 2FA for their own account under Profile → Two-factor authentication. If enforcement is turned on, users will be redirected to this tab after login until setup is completed.
What happens when 2FA is enforced
When an admin requires 2FA:
- The next time a user logs in, they are redirected to their profile → two-factor authentication tab.
- They must set up 2FA before being allowed into their account.
- Going forward, login requires both a password and a one-time code from the authenticator app.
How to set up 2FA for your account
- Go to your profile from the top-right menu.
- Open the two-factor authentication tab.
- Use an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator.
- Scan the QR code with the app, or copy the secret key if scanning is not possible.
- Enter the one-time code generated by the app along with your account password to confirm setup.
- Click enable two-factor authentication.
- Save the backup codes provided in a secure place. These codes allow you to regain access if you lose your device.
Notes
- You can enable 2FA for yourself even if your organization does not require it.
- If you replace your device, you’ll need your authenticator backup or the saved backup codes to regain access.
- If you lose both, contact our support team for assistance.
