Add a ping monitor
Ping monitors let you track the availability of a server, host, or device by sending regular ICMP ping requests. StatusGator checks if the host responds within the configured timeout and alerts you if it fails.
Add a new ping monitor
- Go to Monitors from your left menu.
- Click Add monitor.
- Select Ping monitor from the list of monitor types.
- Enter the IP address or hostname of the server you want to monitor.
- Enter the Display name to make it easier to identify in your board.
- Click Save.
Optional settings
You can fine-tune how your ping monitor behaves in the Settings tab of the configuration screen.
Timeout – Set the maximum time StatusGator will wait for a ping reply before marking it as down.
Example: If set to 30 seconds, the host must respond within that time or it will be considered unavailable.
Monitoring regions – Choose which global regions StatusGator will send pings from.
This lets you test uptime from multiple perspectives (e.g., US East, US West).
Alert sensitivity – Decide how many failed checks in a row trigger an alert.
Example: With 2 retries selected, the system must fail three consecutive checks before you are alerted.
To access these options:
- Go to Monitors in the left menu.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to your ping monitor and select Configure.
- Open the Settings tab.
