Configure a custom monitor
After adding a custom monitor, you can update its settings to match your needs. Custom monitors are manually managed — you create incidents to reflect outages, warnings, or maintenance.
Open the configuration menu
- Go to Monitors from your left menu.
- Find the custom monitor you want to update.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the right side.
- Select Configure.
Available configuration options
General tab
- Change monitor name
- Rename the monitor to something clear and recognizable.
- Edit description
- Add extra context for your team or status page visitors.
- Appears as an info icon (ℹ️) that users can hover over to view details.
- Upload a custom icon
- Replace the default placeholder with your own PNG, JPG, WEBP, or GIF (up to 500 KB).
Remove a custom monitor
If you no longer need the monitor, you can:
- Click Delete monitor at the bottom of the configuration screen, or
- Go to the Monitors page, open the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the monitor, and select Delete Monitor.
Managing downtime with incidents
Custom monitors do not detect outages automatically. Instead, you manage them by creating incidents whenever downtime, degraded performance, or maintenance occurs.
- Incidents communicate issues to your status page users directly.
- Works best if you run your own service (e.g., SaaS platform, e-commerce site, or mobile application).
