Adjust timeout for ping monitors
The timeout setting controls how long StatusGator waits for a ping reply before marking the host as down. Adjusting this value helps balance sensitivity between detecting real outages and ignoring temporary delays.
How to open the timeout settings
- Go to Monitors in the left menu.
- Find the ping monitor you want to adjust.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) and select Configure.
- Open the Settings tab.
- Under Advanced, locate the Timeout options.
Available timeout options
- 5 seconds – Very strict; best for fast, local networks.
- 15 seconds – Balanced for most infrastructure.
- 30 seconds (default) – Allows extra time for high-latency connections without being too lenient.
- 60 seconds – Use for remote or less reliable networks.
Best practices
- Use a shorter timeout (5–15 sec) for stable, low-latency networks like datacenters or internal systems.
- Use a longer timeout (30–60 sec) for global servers or networks where latency is expected.
- Combine with alert sensitivity (retries before alerting) to reduce false positives and make monitoring more reliable.
