Connect StatusGator to Slack

You can connect StatusGator to Slack to receive real-time service status updates directly in your workspace. Our upgraded Slack app replaces the legacy Slack integration and includes new capabilities including reporting of outages, Early Warning Signal notifications, and a built-in status page. For the best experience, upgrade to the new app and remove or pause your legacy Slack integration once you’ve tested the new app.

Set up the Slack integration

  1. Go to Integrations and select Chat.
  2. Click Add next to Slack.
  3. Authorize the connection (you may be prompted to log into Slack).
  4. Choose the Slack channel where you’d like to receive updates.

Can’t find your Slack channel? Enter the channel URL manually.

  1. Save your settings and send a test notification to confirm everything is working.

That’s it — your updates will now flow directly into Slack.

Features

Once connected, StatusGator delivers more than just alerts:

  • In-app notifications – get real-time service updates in the Slack channel you select.
  • Slash commands – check the status of monitored services at any time with /statusgator.
  • In-app board – open your StatusGator board directly inside Slack. You’ll find it in the left-hand sidebar under Apps → StatusGator. From there, you can:
    • View all monitored services in one place
    • Switch between boards using the Change Board dropdown
    • Report an outage on a specific service
  • Early Warning Signals – receive alerts about potential issues before they appear on official status pages.
  • Issue reporting and upvoting – if your team notices a problem with a service, you can report it directly from Slack. Others on your team can quickly upvote the report to confirm the issue. This avoids duplicated reports, makes it clear how widespread the problem is, and helps your team respond faster.
  • Quick access to source links– every notification includes shortcuts to:
    • The official status page (if available)
    • The unofficial StatusGator status page
    • The service home page
    • Twitter updates (if available)
    • Your StatusGator board

Message shortcuts and slash commands

StatusGator gives you two powerful ways to interact with your monitored services directly from Slack: message shortcuts and slash commands.

Message shortcuts

Message shortcuts are available in the More actions menu from any message in Slack (the ⋮ icon). These let you take quick action without leaving the conversation:

  • Status Check – check the status of a monitored service from your connected boards.

Note: if the service isn’t in your StatusGator account, you won’t be able to check its status.

  • Report Outage– open the outage report modal. Once submitted:
    • A message appears in the selected channel showing who reported it, the service name, and the description.
    • Other team members can upvote the report, providing visibility and confirming the issue.

Slash commands

Type a / forward slash in the message field of any Slack channel or direct message to see available commands.

/statusgator [service name] – instantly check the status of a specific monitored service.

These tools let your team quickly check statuses, raise issues, and keep everyone aligned without leaving Slack.

Connect additional boards

Each board can be connected to one Slack channel. If you’d like to send updates to a different Slack channel (for example, for another division or department), create an additional board in StatusGator and connect it to the channel of your choice.
