Add a custom monitor
Custom monitors let you track systems or services that aren’t automatically monitored by StatusGator. Unlike website or ping monitors, these are managed manually by creating incidents.
When your custom monitor experiences downtime or any outage, you use incidents to communicate issues directly to your status page users.
This works best if you have your own product or infrastructure — for example:
- A SaaS platform
- An e-commerce site
- A mobile application
- Office wifi
- Corporate network
- Or any internal system you want to report status for
Why use custom monitors?
- Manual control: Decide when to post downtime, warnings, or scheduled maintenance.
- Transparent communication: Keep your users informed during outages or planned work.
- Flexible coverage: Track parts of your infrastructure that can’t be automatically monitored (e.g., internal APIs, third-party dependencies without status pages).
- Historical record: Build a timeline of incidents to review and improve reliability.
How to add a custom monitor
- Go to Monitors in the left menu.
- Click + Add Monitor in the upper-right corner.
- Select Custom monitor from the options.
- Fill in the details:
- Monitor name – The label displayed on your board and status page.
- Description (optional) – Hoverable info icon (ℹ️) with extra context.
- Icon (optional) – Upload a custom image (PNG/JPG/WEBP/GIF up to 500 KB).
- Click Save.
Your new custom monitor will appear in your monitors list. To update its status, create incidents whenever downtime, issues, or maintenance occurs.
